"All my life I was told that I wanted to be a medical doctor. I always loved working with people, but half way through my pre-med program I realized I wanted nothing to do with the medical profession. My father wanted to be a medical doctor, and would have loved for me to do that. While in a zoology class at Wayne State University, in Detroit, I realized that I didn't want to be a medical doctor. I stood up in the middle of the class and announced that I QUIT. I DONT WANT TO BE A MEDICAL DOCTOR.
I quit school for 3 years and worked 3 different jobs in the work field. One day while I was working in the building business in 1977, the economy was terrible and interest rates for home improvement went up to 23%. My dad approached me and asked me if I know anything about the Chiropractic field, which I knew absolutely nothing about. Once when I was 14 years old my mom took me to see Dr. Tooma, the local Chiropractor. I had a painful stiff neck that wouldn't go away. One visit to Dr. Tooma, and my neck pain went away. I knew nothing about Chiropractic. but my dad said he heard that Chiropractors can make a decent living. The deal was if I went to Chiropractic school and didn't like it I could come back into the building business, otherwise I could practice Chiropractic."Dr. Kay began his pre-chiropractic education at Wayne State University, in Detroit, where he studied the basic sciences such as inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, along with basic physiology and anatomy courses.
After completing his study there, he was accepted at Life Chiropractic College, in Marietta, Ga. Dr. Kay finished his 4 years of Chiropractic College in three years, by attending school all year long instead of taking the normal 4 years to finish school. During his four years at Life College, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, X-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Life College Public Clinic. After graduating in 1981 Dr. Kay returned to the Detroit area to establish his practice.
"Well here we are in 2007, and I have been practicing Chiropractic for over 25 years and I love it. What a great profession. I see miracles happen every day. People who have been suffering for years, who have been told that they have to learn to live with they're pain come into our office and get better, in most instances very quickly. I can't thank my father enough for talking me into trying out Chiropractic for a living! I feel like the luckiest person in the world. Its so nice to love what you do, and my patients can see how much I love what I do."
“We love skeptics,” smiles Dr. Kay. “I still remember the concerns and apprehension I had when I went to the chiropractor for the first time. So we make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and attempt to over communicate. Patients appreciate that.”
Dr. Kay has been receiving Chiropractic care for over 30 years. I started getting regular chiropractic adjustments when I started Chiropractic college. Because my job can be physically demanding, its so important for me to keep up with my own chiropractic care. I get adjusted at least every 2 weeks, to keep up with my own maintainance spinal care. I absolutly practice what I preach!
Dr. Kay has been married to Karen since 1987 and they have 2 wonderful children, Brandon and Jenna. Both children have been under Chiropractic care since they were born, and continue to get regular maintainance adjustments to keep them healthy as possible. In school our kids never got sick, so they never missed school. They would complain that they never got to miss school like all the other kids who would get sick and miss school.
Dr. Kay loves to snow ski and his children love to snow board. At least we would look forward to winter time and snow, living up here in Michigan. Dr. Kay and his wife Karen love to spend time with they're family, travel, and visit Northern Michigan in the summer.
